Tottenham hoping to replace 25-year-old first-team ace with English prodigy

Tottenham are interested in signing Archie Gray to replace Emerson Royal who is expected to be on the move this summer.

On the back of a failed Barcelona move, Emerson Royal arrived at the North London club in the summer of 2021. While he was an integral part of their first team in the initial seasons, a lot has changed since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.

The Brazilian full-back has been linked with a move away from the club and according to a report from Football Insider, Spurs are hoping to replace Emerson Royal with Archie Gray who has had a sensational rise at Leeds United.

The 25-year-old full-back was involved in 24 matches last term but the majority of those appearances came because of injuries at the back. While Spurs are aware of the quality of the player, he is not an ideal fit in Postecoglou’s system. As a result, they are ready to cash in on him despite him having two years left on his deal.

AC Milan are the ones pushing for his signature with Spurs holding out on their asking price of £20 million. With Emerson Royal’s exit almost a certainty, Tottenham are working on signing a potential replacement. They want to bring in a young player who can grow under the Australian boss and have their eyes on Archie Gray.

While the teenager is a midfielder, he has shown a lot of promise while playing as a right-back for Leeds in his debut season with the first team. He has had a huge impact in his breakthrough campaign and Spurs want to prise him away from Elland Road. The 18-year-old’s huge potential along with his versatility are major reasons why the North London club want him in their squad ahead of next season.
