James Maddison is set to leave Leicester City this summer and clubs like Newcastle and Tottenham are looking to sign him.
A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham have made the 26-year-old midfielder their top target for the summer transfer window and they are currently pushing to get a deal done.
The report further states that Tottenham are now hopeful of winning the race for the Leicester City midfielder.
The Foxes have been relegated to the Championship and Maddison deserves to play in the top flight. The opportunity to play for clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle will be an attractive option for him.
Despite Leicester’s relegation, Maddison has had an impressive campaign scoring 10 goals and picking up 9 assists in the league.
The midfielder has a contract with Leicester until the summer of 2024 and they are under pressure to cash in on him this summer. They will not want to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer.
Given the fact that he has just 12 months left on his deal, Tottenham will be hoping to sign him for a reasonable price and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal done.
The north London club currently do not have a permanent manager in place and they are searching for a director of football as well.
On the other hand, Newcastle have secured Champions League qualification and they are looking to strengthen their squad so that they can push for major trophies next year. Spurs might find it difficult to convince Maddison to turn down the opportunity to play for a Champions League club with an ambitious project and join them instead.
Newcastle need to add creativity and goals to their side as well. They have drawn 14 league games this season and players like Maddison could help turn those draws into wins.
