Tottenham have sent scouts to watch star goalkeeper with ‘€75m release clause’

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the hunt for a new goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window.

The team’s current keeper, Hugo Lloris, has had a poor season so far and has been criticised for a number of errors that have led to goals.

His performances have led to criticism from fans and pundits alike with the likes of Garth Crook claiming that Spurs will not win anything with the Frenchman in goal.

It has been previously reported that the Tottenham hierarchy are also now considering a long-term replacement for their veteran goalkeeper.

According to 90min, Spurs are among the clubs who have sent scouts to watch Porto’s Diogo Costo play – Chelsea and Manchester United being the other Premier League clubs.

The Portuguese number 1 signed a new contract with the club in November last year and according to Fabrizio Romano, has a €75m release clause.

Spurs have also been linked with several other goalkeepers including Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Leeds United’s Illan Meslier, and Brighton’s Robert Sanchez.

The club’s recent relationship with Atletico Madrid is particularly interesting, as they could use this connection to try and sign both Yannick Carrasco and Jan Oblak in a double swoop.

Jan Oblak is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has been linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid for some time.

He has won numerous titles with the Spanish club and has been instrumental in helping them maintain one of the strongest defenses in Europe. If Tottenham can secure his signature, it would be a massive coup for the club and a sign of their ambition.

Jordan Pickford is another player linked with a move to Tottenham. The Everton goalkeeper has been in excellent form this season and has been an important player for the club. He has also established himself as England’s first-choice goalkeeper, which is a testament to his talent. However, he has been criticized for some high-profile errors, which could concern Spurs.

In terms of a high profile signing and quality, Oblak would be a no brainer but Spurs have a number of excellent goalkeepers to choose from.
