Tottenham are reportedly lining up a move for the Benfica manager Roger Schmidt.
The 55-year-old is being looked at as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte if the Italian decides to leave the club this summer. His contract comes to an end soon and Spurs plan to offer him an extension.
Conte has been linked with former club Juventus as well and it will be interesting to see what he decides.
The Italian manager is one of the best in the world and Daniel Levy must do everything in his power to convince Conte to stay for the long term.
However, if he is determined to move on, Spurs will look to bring in Schmidt as the alternative as per Rudy Galletti.
The German manager has done exceptionally well with Benfica this season. The Portuguese giants recently qualified for the round of 16 in the Champions League as their group winners. Benfica had teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in their group.
Schmidt’s attacking football has garnered a lot of praise this season and he would be a quality appointment for Spurs next season.
The 55-year-old’s arrival at Spurs would also see him reunite with Son Heung-Min. The South Korean played under him at Bayer Leverkusen and the two share an amicable relationship.
In an ideal world, keeping Conte would be the desired option for Spurs. He has put together an impressive squad at the club and leaving the project midway would be surprising for an ambitious manager like the Italian.
