Tottenham have German manager lined up if Conte talks don’t go according to plan

Tottenham are reportedly lining up a move for the Benfica manager Roger Schmidt.

The 55-year-old is being looked at as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte if the Italian decides to leave the club this summer. His contract comes to an end soon and Spurs plan to offer him an extension.

Conte has been linked with former club Juventus as well and it will be interesting to see what he decides.

The Italian manager is one of the best in the world and Daniel Levy must do everything in his power to convince Conte to stay for the long term.

However, if he is determined to move on, Spurs will look to bring in Schmidt as the alternative as per Rudy Galletti

The German manager has done exceptionally well with Benfica this season. The Portuguese giants recently qualified for the round of 16 in the Champions League as their group winners. Benfica had teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in their group.

Schmidt’s attacking football has garnered a lot of praise this season and he would be a quality appointment for Spurs next season.

The 55-year-old’s arrival at Spurs would also see him reunite with Son Heung-Min. The South Korean played under him at Bayer Leverkusen and the two share an amicable relationship.

In an ideal world, keeping Conte would be the desired option for Spurs. He has put together an impressive squad at the club and leaving the project midway would be surprising for an ambitious manager like the Italian.

You get better quality overall in terms of the individual players in the Premiership but like you say, other good leagues often have better levels of technicality, across the board.

So the week started out with the Brentford manager , then on to the AM manager, now we are at Benfica.
Where are the links to that bloke who once managed us and is currently out of a job who has publicly stated that he wants to complete his unfinished business of delivering a (major) trophy to the supporters.

The happy clappers seem to have come out the woodwork after we scraped past Marseille and are using this window of opportunity to spread some more untruths and fantasy.

Where were they last week when Conte was being pretty negative about the state of the squad and that we needed to do more in January? We had a ‘great’ summer transfer window did we? Why’s the manager moaning then?

We’ll see this on and off throughout the season until Conte exits in the summer. ENIC bots…

It reqlly doesn’t matter who comes in as a replacement. He will not receive the necessary backing and it wil be jam tomorrow yet again.

For an experienced manager who has won trophies,he can overcome the set back working for Spurs, but somebody starting on the managerial ladder it can be a real setback.

If the likes of Conte and Mourinho end up banging their heads against a brick wall,it just shows what a poisoned challis the job is.

Personally I think the drooling is drying up,..not a Spurs thing..just a general point as HH pointed out a while back you can watch most Bundesliga games and watch better technical football..The EPL is over hyped .
Pochettino took us close for 3 years ..and was sh@t on..we will see.
Liverpool this weekend good test ..half of the deadly duo our out so a little taster of the season after next ..or earlier.

I think ‘putting together’ an impressive squad is more appropriate .
I honestly believe that Conte has one of the great club management jobs in the world at this time .
Our league is drooled over by the rest of the planet and we are definitely top 5 in England , very likely top 20 in Europe at least and we will be spending [again ] in January after a World Cup involving up to 12-15 of our squad.
We like to play football “the right way” , which has led to our paranoia about not winning trophies , but we have come a long way , albeit Stadium related , but that has given us an optimistic view and has elevated us to believing that anything / everything is achievable .
I know that people will feel I’m star-gazing but we have never been so close to the very top of club football than we are right now , that maybe Conte tells the truth in stating we are one or two windows short of being [ in his words ] competitive at that level .
I believe him – he is going nowhere …….!!!!!!!!! C O Y S ………..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

“He has put together an impressive squad at the club”. Actually, it’s because it’s not an impressive squad that means he will probably leave at the end of the season.
