Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Napoli goalkeeper, Alex Meret at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been in splendid form this season and his performances have helped Napoli climb to the top of the Italian league standings.
Meret has produced impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League as well and Napoli managed to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
As per reports via AreaNapoli, his performances have caught the attention of the Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who have now ‘asked for information’ regarding a summer transfer.
The Premier League club have been told to wait and any discussion has been postponed until the end of the season. Apparently, Napoli will evaluate the offers from his suitors, including Tottenham when they arrive in the summer.
Tottenham need to bring in a quality replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris and Meret would be a superb acquisition. The 26-year-old is entering his peak years and he could replace the French international next season.
Lloris has not been at his best for over a year now and his error-prone performances have cost his side valuable points.
Tottenham will be hoping to fight for trophies next season and the goalkeeping position is a weakness they will need to address soon.
The 36-year-old French international could still be an important presence in the Tottenham dressing room until his contract expires. However, he should not be anything more than a squad player if Tottenham are serious about competing with the elite clubs.
