Tottenham handed blow in their pursuit of 43-goal attacker

Tottenham have received a major setback in their pursuit of Sporting CP ace Viktor Gyokeres.

Viktor Gyokeres’s future was one of the biggest talking points throughout the summer transfer window thanks to his exceptional performances for Sporting CP last season. The Swedish striker was linked with a move to Europe’s biggest clubs but he has ended up staying at the Portuguese club and is ready to make a big decision regarding his future.

According to a report from HITC, Gyokeres is all set to pen down a new long-term deal with Sporting CP which is a major blow for Tottenham Hotspur who were keen on signing him during the summer. The 26-year-old made the move to Portugal last summer from Coventry City and he ended up scoring 43 goals and also bagged 15 assists in his 50 outings during his debut campaign.

His performances resulted in a significant amount of interest from the Premier League with Tottenham being one of the clubs keen on prising him away from Portugal. The North London club couldn’t strike a deal for him in the summer and they instead ended up signing Dominic Solanke for a club-record fee.

While they have already bolstered their attack, they could have returned for the Swedish international in the future but they have received a setback as Gyokeres is all set to sign a new long-term deal with the club. He is all set to commit his future to the club despite being linked with a big-money move to some of the biggest clubs in England. Ruben Amorim’s decision to continue as Sporting’s manager might have played a big part in the 26-year-old’s decision.
