Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard has been strongly linked with a summer move to Tottenham, however, they face competition for his signature from Serie A sides Juventus and Roma, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
Vestergaard was identified as a Jose Mourinho target via the Mail and remains on the Tottenham radar despite the Portuguese departure.
Obviously, money will be a telling factor in any transfer, however, there are some things in Tottenham’s favour and one big negative.
That negative is that Southampton may not be so willing to do business with Daniel Levy because of the Super League debacle, however, time will tell if that really is going to be an ongoing issue.
What is to Spurs advantage is that they have done regular business with the Saints and there is a good relationship there, or there was. Secondly, the 28-year-old’s international teammate Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is already at Tottenham and that could be an influence.
You can never underestimate a fellow countryman’s influence as was shown when former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen spoke with Hojbjerg about moving to N17 (Standard).
One final factor is that a move to Spurs would enable the Dane to remain in England.
Tottenham certainly needs to revamp their backline and Vestergaard would bring experience and a calm head to the centre of the Spurs defence.
He looks like a typical Tottenham player and has a commanding presence about him and you have to feel he would be an upgrade on the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.
Roma and Juventus are serious competitors for his signature, however, if Spurs is determined enough they are well placed to lure him to the Tottenham stadium in the summer.
Exactly, its what concerns me also, I prefer more solid like Dunk or Tarkowski.
Fulham have conceded 15 less goals than Southampton this year.
Is a player that has been part of the second worse defence in the league an upgrade?
People saying Joachim Andersen isn’t good enough as he’s currently playing for a side threatened by relegation, yet this guy (3/4 years older by the way) is better?
