Tottenham have been linked with a move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could look to sign the 28-year-old England international if Everton end up getting relegated from the Premier League this season.
Journalist Michael Bridge told GMS: “I think if Everton get relegated, Daniel Levy would like the England goalkeeper, maybe as an option. People throw names at me and I don’t think I’d rule anyone out at this stage, I think they will all be considered, so it’s one to look out for in the summer.”
Everton are currently 19th in the league table and they have been abysmal all season. If they do not improve significantly over the next few weeks, they could easily be relegated to the Championship.
Meanwhile, Pickford is too good to play in the second division and the England international will probably be looking to leave the club at the end of the season.
Moving to Tottenham would be an exciting opportunity for the player and it would be the ideal step up in his career as well.
Pickford has established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Premier League in recent seasons and the 28-year-old is at the peak of his career. He could be the ideal long-term replacement for French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The 36-year-old has not been at his best this season and he will need replacing soon.
Pickford has the quality to make an immediate impact at Tottenham and he could improve Antonio Conte’s side next season.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks now.
Meanwhile, Hugo Lloris could still be an important member of the Tottenham dressing room with his experience and leadership qualities. But the Frenchman has made four errors leading to goals in the Premier League this season and he is simply not good enough to start for a club hoping to win the major honours now.
