Tottenham eyeing up a move for 17-year-old defensive prodigy

Tottenham are interested in signing Sampdoria defensive sensation Giovanni Leoni.

The North London club have focused on the Italian market in the recent past in an attempt to reinforce their squad. They have identified a young defensive star from Serie B in Giovanni Leoni and according to Il Secolo XIX via SampNews24, Tottenham are looking to sign the Italian youth international.

Leoni came up the ranks at Padova. He was promoted to their first team last summer and after just six months with the senior side, Sampdoria decided to sign him on a short loan. He featured in 12 matches for the Serie B outfit and even bagged a goal.

His loan move to Sampdoria has just become permanent but he might not be around for next season as there is a lot of interest in his services from clubs in the Italian top flight. Tottenham are the only ones who are interested in the 17-year-old from outside of Italy and they are the ones to watch out for given their financial strength.

Ange Postecoglou has already added two central defenders to his squad over the last two transfer windows. Despite that, he is keen on signing another one ahead of next season as he looks to add more depth at the back.

While the teenager might not be ready for the Premier League yet, he can be a great signing in the long run. Sampdoria are keeping a close eye on the market as they are aware of the amount of interest in their star. If they do end up deciding to sanction his departure, they are keen on taking him back on loan.
