Tottenham eye £86m star to replace Hugo Lloris

Tottenham are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign a new goalkeeper, with the club interested in Valencia stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Spurs and Manchester United are interested in Georgian goalkeeper Mamardashvili.

Spurs are looking for a replacement for Hugo Lloris, who is 36 years old, and United are also looking to for a long-term replacement for De Gea.

Mamardashvili 23 is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga. He has been extremely impressive for Valencia which has attracted interest from all over Europe.

However, the report states that he has a release clause of a whopping £86m, with the player’s contract running at the club till 2027. Spurs, however, will be hoping to get him on a much cheaper price with the fee mentioned in the report being ‘around £25m

TMW reports that Tottenham have ‘enquired’ about the keeper who consider him a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Mamardashvili, a regular under Gennaro Gattuso this season, is described as a ‘physically structured goalkeeper , with a left foot, skilled between the goalposts, and with a good personality.’

Having ‘enquired’ about the Valencia goalkeeper, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will make an offer to sign Mamardashvili in the January transfer window or next summer.

Spurs have also been linked with other goalkeepers recently including Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier.

Lloris has come under a lot of criticism recently with pundits like Garth Crooks and Jamie Carragher both calling on Spurs to replace the Frenchman if they want to win.
