Tottenham draw up a five-man shortlist ahead of the January transfer window

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to the Daily Express (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham have drawn up a 5-man shortlist ahead of the January transfer window.

Tottenham are struggling with an injury crisis at the moment which has made their already thin squad even more depleted.

The North London club had a terrific start to the season with 10 games unbeaten, 8 wins and 2 draws as they sat on top of the table above Manchester City and Arsenal.

But the defeat to Chelsea along with the injuries to some of their best players in James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven proved to be a big blow for Spurs. They went on to lose to Wolves the following week dropping down to 4th place.

The upcoming January transfer window is going to be an extremely crucial one for Spurs as failure to bolster their squad with the right players in the right positions can end up completely derailing their season.

The report claims that Spurs have started working behind the scenes and ‘held a meeting’ to discuss the potential options that can be signed in the January transfer window to address the defense.

The five centre-backs shortlisted as per the report are:  Malick Thiaw (AC Milan), Morato (Benfica), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton) and Goncalo Inacio (Sporting Lisbon).

TBH Says:

Daniel Levy, Johan Lange and co will have their work cut out for January. Tottenham need at least one if not top quality centre-backs, specially considering the reports linking Eric Dier with a January exit as well.

But it is not just the defense that needs bolstering. While it is one of the key areas to address, Spurs also face a midfield problem with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr expected to miss one month of action due to AFCON which starts in January.

They may also need another attacker with skipper Heung-min Son expected to be away for a month as well due to the Asian Cup and Richarlison (currently injured) struggling with form.
