Tottenham dealt blow in their pursuit of Bundesliga ace

Croatia international defender Josko Gvardiol has been linked with a move away from RB Leipzig in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old centre-back has been outstanding for his country in the World Cup and he has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Spurs are reportedly keen on securing his services, but journalist, Ryan Taylor has now revealed to Give Me Sport that the defender is out of Tottenham’s price range. The player is thought to be on the radar of Premier League rivals Chelsea as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

He said: “I think there was an acceptance last summer that he was already out of Spurs’ price range because Chelsea had a proposal worth about 80 million rejected by Leipzig, which included him spending a year back on loan at the club, so he’s out of Spurs’ league.”

Gvardiol has the potential to develop into one of the best defenders in the world, and he needs to join a club where he can play regular first-team football.

Antonio Conte is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and the RB Leipzig star could have been the ideal partner for Cristian Romero at the heart of his defence.

The likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet have been quite inconsistent and Conte is looking to bring in a more reliable defender in the coming months.

Apart from the centre-back position, Spurs need to improve their full-back department as well.

The likes of Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence have been largely underwhelming and Spurs should look to bring in a quality fullback.

Antonio Conte has helped Tottenham improve considerably since his arrival but he will need to sign a few more quality players in order to truly challenge for the major trophies.
