Tottenham dealt blow in their pursuit of 26-year-old attacker

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks.

According to a report from 90min, the 26-year-old Spanish winger prefers to join Italian clubs Napoli and Atalanta instead.

The Spanish international will be out of contract at the end of the season and he could secure a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month.

It remains to be seen whether the player can come to an agreement with either of the two Italian clubs this month.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are thought to be keeping tabs on his situation as well and it remains to be seen whether they can convince him to continue in the Premier League.

Apparently, Antonio Conte wants to deploy the player in the role of a wingback but Traore wants to play in a more advanced role as the winger.

Therefore, the Spaniard is thought to prefer a move to Napoli and Atalanta where he will be given more license to venture forward and play closer to the goal.

Tottenham have been linked with the number of full-backs in recent months, especially with the likes of Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal struggling to perform at a high level.

It remains to be seen whether Conte can improve that area of his squad in the coming months.

The Italian manager’s system is heavily dependent on attacking full-backs and Traore could prove to be a quality acquisition.

The fact that the Spaniard could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season makes the move more attractive and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Traore has the technical and physical attributes to thrive in the role of a wing-back as well and he’s well-settled in the Premier League. He could make an immediate impact at the London club next season.
