Tottenham might have finally found a solution to their Harry Kane-backup problem if a recent report turns out to be true.
The England captain is one of the best goal scorers in the world, and it is understandable that he has to play when he is fit.
However, when he hasn’t been fit or available, the team tends to suffer like they did earlier this year.
Sportwitness, citing Calcio Napoli claims that Tottenham is interested in signing young Ajax forward, Danilo Pereira da Silva this summer, who could be available for as low as €4m.
The youngster isn’t yet an established member of the Ajax first team, which is what makes him so affordable.
However, he is highly rated, and a number of top European teams have been monitoring his progress.
Spurs would have to beat the likes of Napoli and Benfica to land him, the same report claims.
This could be great business for Spurs considering that the player has the potential to become one of the best around and can be signed for such a low fee.
It is always going to be difficult for Tottenham to sign any establish forward to play a backup role and the only real possibilities will be either older players like an Oliver Giroud or young exciting talent like Danilo and I know which one I would prefer and it is certainly not a Chelsea and Arsenal reject.
Another factor to consider is that the youngster would be coming from a club with a huge reputation for producing top quality young players and to some extent that means a lot of the players development will have already been done.
Only ‘fit and available’ for two thirds of the season nowadays.
You know what, I’m sick of this story about the impossibility of getting a back up striker for Harry Kane. Have a good look at Man City and Aguero and Jesus, Man United, Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Ighalo, Liverpool, Mane, Salah, Origi, it’s tripe, no wonder the club is in the state it’s in when this balderdash is repeated. As Mourinho said most well run clubs have four or five strikers. We are a laughing stock, literally the only club in the world of professional football with one fit and available striker.
