Tottenham could have as much as £175 million to spend on new players

Tottenham is in a mess financially, they are not the only club of course but they are one of the worst-hit clubs in this pandemic and their financial issues are compounded by the fact that the squad is in desperate need of an overhaul.

Now, we know that Joe Lewis, the biggest shareholder of ENIC is not going to put his hand in his pocket and gift the club a few hundred million, we also know that the owners are hell-bent on the club being self-sufficient.

That is all fine and dandy as long as there is money to be invested in players by whatever means necessary.

In the absence of the owners putting money in then the only way the club can have any sort of transfer kitty is if they sell players.

I have put together a list of players that seem to be the ones that are generally referred to as deadwood, that is not to say that I agree that all these players should be sold but judging by comments on here and on social media, these ten players do appear to be the ones where no tears would be shed if they are jettisoned.

Hugo Lloris €9.00m
Davinson Sanchez €35.00m
Eric Dier €25.00m
Ben Davies €16.00m
Serge Aurier €20.00m
Matt Doherty €18.00m
Harry Winks €22.00m
Moussa Sissoko €13.00m
Dele Alli €32.00m
Erik Lamela €16.00m

Total €206m converted to £175m

Of course, it is unlikely that ten players will be sold in one window, they have to be replaced after all, though I am sure Oliver Skipp, Juan Foyth and Ryan Sessegnon could easily come in as ready-made replacements for at least three of the players on that list.

The point is that Tottenham could raise as much as £175m that could be reinvested in the squad and that is enough money to bring in 4-5 quality players that could do a job for Jose Mourinho, especially if they are his signings.

Things are not great right now financially but that does not mean that a squad overhaul cannot be done in the summer, as long as the will is there.
