Tottenham could be involved in an auction for 17-year-old defensive prodigy

Tottenham might have to enter a bidding war for the services of Italian defensive sensation Giovanni Leoni.

The teenager who came up the ranks at Padova finds himself on the wishlist of multiple top clubs from Italy on the back of his impressive performances in Serie B.

According to La Repubblica via Napoli Magazine, Tottenham are willing to battle the Italian clubs for Giovanni Leoni and could be involved in an auction for his signature.

Just six months after getting promoted to the first team of Padova, Leoni made the move to Sampdoria on a short loan at the start of the year. He featured in 12 matches for the Serie B outfit and his move is all set to become permanent this summer.

On the back of his performances for Sampdoria, multiple Serie A clubs are ready to prise him away. But, they are not the only ones interested as Tottenham are also keen on his signature. The North London club have looked at the Italian market for opportunities on multiple occasions in the recent past and they seem to have found another great defensive option in Leoni.

The teenager has huge potential and Spurs could bet on him as someone who can help them in the long run. With Ange Postecoglou keen on adding more depth to the backline, the 17-year-old could be a great acquisition for them. But, for that to happen, Tottenham might have to enter an auction for the teenager as Napoli, Inter Milan and Torino are all keeping a close eye on him.
