Tottenham considering terminating player’s contract after deal with European club collapses

According to The Times, Tottenham are considering terminating the contract of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The former Tottenham captain has one year left in his current Spurs contract but has been linked with a move away since the start of the summer.

He had publicly expressed his desire to leave the club early in the summer transfer window and Tottenham too are said to be willing to let their ageing star go. They have already replaced him with Guglielmo Vicario who has started all three of their games so far.

A number of clubs have expressed interest in signing him over the summer including Al-Hilal, Nice, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Lazio but so far, the club and the player have failed to reach an agreement.

Recent reports suggested that Lazio are close to signing him as their club president himself wants to get the transfer done but according to The Times, the move to Lazio has also collapsed.

It is now being claimed that the club are considering terminating his contract as he is excess to requirements this season.  This would allow the player to join any club on a free transfer and will also get him off Tottenham’s wage list.

Lloris has been a loyal servant to Tottenham throughout his career, but his age and a season marked by several high-profile mistakes has led to the club making the decision to replace him.

The 36-year-old is undoubtedly a club legend and Spurs fans will always remember him fondly for his 11 years at the club.
