Tottenham’s chances of Champions League football next season boosted by LMA chief comments

Tottenham’s hopes of Champions League football have received a boost from the chief executive of the League Managers Association Richard Bevan.

Bevan was speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme and was specifically asked if the season would be cancelled if seven clubs voted against the proposal to conclude the season at neutral venues.

He said “Yes, I think that probably is correct. The government, if they haven’t already, will be making it clear that home matches with densely populated stadia, really puts into question whether social distancing rules can be adhered to.”

If the season is cancelled then there is still a chance that either the current placings are used or a points per game method implemented but both would cause chaos and neither would be likely to gain enough votes to pass, thus the season would be simply null and void.

A voided season would mean going back to last seasons standings, there is simply no other way it could work, the teams near the bottom are very likely to stick together if they vote against neutral grounds and that means that Spurs will be back in the Champions League.

This would obviously be grossly unfair on the likes of Leicester City, Sheffield United, West Brom, Leeds United, Liverpool etc but it is what it is and from a Tottenham perspective I am personally fine with it.
