Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on making a move for the Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler at the end of the season.
According to a report via Daily Express, Tottenham were keeping tabs on the 19-year-old midfielder who has struggled for regular game time at the Spanish club this season. He has started just twice in all competitions this season.
The Turkish midfielder joined Real Madrid with hopes of playing regularly, but he has not been able to establish himself as a key player for the club yet. Tottenham could have provided him with an exit route at the end of the season, but manager Carlo Ancelotti has now ruled out any potential move for the youngster.
The Italian manager has revealed that he is a key part of the Real Madrid project and he will not be allowed to leave the club any time soon.
“Arda is going to be a very important player for us in the future, and there is no doubt that he will stay here next year. He could have played earlier because he’s training so well.
“He is very young, and little by little he will learn what his role is in this team. He has scored more goals than he has played. That’s the gift he has.”
Guler is versatile enough to operate as the central attacking midfielder as well as a winger. He would have added goals and creativity to the total midfield. It will be interesting to see if the north London club decide to move on to other targets now.
The 19-year-old is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future ahead of him. He is expected to develop into a top class player with coaching and guidance.
However, he needs to play more often at the stage of his career in order to continue his development. A player with his potential cannot afford to sit on the bench every week. It remains to be seen whether Ancelotti is prepared to give him the opportunities he needs.
