Tottenham Hotspur have won the race to sign the Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden.

The 17-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Barcelona as well but a report from the Athletic confirms that Tottenham have now won the race for his signature.

The report claims that a deal with Barcelona was close to being done but the Premier League side managed to swoop in and convince the player to join them instead.

The midfielder is set to fly in for his medical with the Premier League club tomorrow, and he will sign a five-year contract with the Londoners. The midfielder will join up with the English club at the end of the season and he will stay at Djurgarden for the rest of this season.

The report states that Spurs will pay a fee of €10 million plus add-ons for the highly talented playmaker.

Bergvall is a prodigious young talent with a massive future ahead of him and he could develop into a future star for Spurs with the right guidance. The fact that the Londoners managed to beat one of the biggest clubs in the world to his signature represents an excellent coup.

Regular football in England could help the midfielder develop quickly and fulfil his potential. Ange Postecoglou did well to groom talented young players during his time at Celtic and he could play a key role in the development of the Swedish midfielder as well.
