Tottenham backed to sign 23-year-old with a quality Postecoglou ‘likes’

By Saikat -

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge and Tottenham Hotspur could be interested in securing his services.

A report from Daily Mail claims that Chelsea are now prepared to cash in on the 23-year-old central midfielder and Tottenham could make their move if he is made available next month.

Spurs need to bring in more quality and depth in the middle of the park and the Chelsea player would certainly be a quality acquisition. He will add defensive cover, physicality, drive, and energy in the midfield.

Ange Postecoglou’s high-intensity attacking system demands a central midfielder with pressing ability and energy. Gallagher could be the ideal fit for the north London club.

Former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara has now backed the Chelsea player to succeed at Tottenham if the transfer goes through.

“I really like Gallagher,” O’Hara tells talkSPORT (12 December, 9.40am).

“He’s got brilliant energy, he gets around the pitch. He lacks a bit of what (James) Maddison has got, in terms of star quality, but he’s got energy. And you’ve seen with Ange Postecoglou, he likes high energy.”

The midfielder was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer transfer window as well, but he chose to continue at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea were happy to hold onto him. There were rumours of a potential contract extension, but it seems that Chelsea are now ready to get rid of some of their players in order to fund their January moves.

Spurs could part ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Gallagher would be a superb alternative. In addition to that, they will lose players like Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma during AFCON. They need more depth in their midfield.
