Tottenham attacker set for summer exit, club director confirms talks

Tottenham Hotspur winger Lucas Moura has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old Brazilian international is out of contract at the end of the season and Tottenham have decided not to extend his current contract as per The Telegraph. The player is set to move on as a free agent in the summer.

Sao Paulo director Carlos Belmonte has now revealed that the player is returning to Brazil at the end of the season and he has already spoken to Moura regarding a potential move.

“We talked several times. That’s already agreed (that Lucas will return to Brazil),” Belmonte said to Arnaldo e Tironi on YouTube

“We trust Lucas’ word. The first team he’s going to look for is Sao Paulo. And then we’re going to make the decision; is it possible? Affordable? Is it worth it?

“We don’t know when it will happen. Lucas has a huge affection for Sao Paulo, and so do we (for him). But it will depend on the moment. He is always on our radar, but there is no guarantee that he will come to Sao Paulo.”

However, the transfer is far from agreed and Sao Paulo will have to ascertain whether the Tottenham star will be an affordable acquisition for them.

Meanwhile, Moura has previously indicated that he is willing to rejoin his boyhood club in the summer and it remains to be seen whether he can seal a return to Sao Paulo in the coming months.

Moura has been a useful player for Tottenham since joining the club and he helped them challenge for the league title and reach the Champions League finals under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the Brazilian has dropped down the pecking order this season following the arrivals of players like Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison. The 30-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and a return to Brazil will allow him to get his career back on track once again.
