Report confirms Tottenham approach for highly-regarded sporting director

By Saikat -

Tottenham target Jordi Cruyff is all set to return to action after taking a sabbatical year.

Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici was handed a ban by FIFA last year. It came as a huge blow for the club. While the North London club did appoint Johan Lange to take charge as the technical director to help cope with Paratici’s absence, they are still on the lookout for a new sporting director.

They approached Jordi Cruyff last year but he decided against taking the job as per a report by Mundo Deportivo. However, with the former Barcelona man looking to return to action after taking a sabbatical, the North London club might decide to knock on his door once again.

Cruyff was working as the manager of SZ FC before he was approached by Barcelona to join them as a key backroom staff. The 50-year-old wanted to build his career as a manager but Joan Laporta convinced him to become Barcelona’s sports director.

Will Tottenham return for Jordi Cruyff?

After working at the Spanish club for two years, he took a year off. And, during that time he had offers from across the globe. Clubs in the Middle East as well as Europe knocked on his door. Even Spurs approached him to be their new sporting director but he decided to stay away from the game with the idea of making a return as a manager.

The 50-year-old has now decided to return to action this summer. The report suggests he could be heading to the Middle East in search of a managerial role. He hasn’t finalised a move yet and it remains to be seen whether Spurs offer him the opportunity to be their sporting director again.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
