Top four rivals plot surprise January move for £25m Tottenham utility man

By Saikat -

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Sessegnon.

“Along the same lines, there will be no purchases until after sales are made due to Profit and Sustainability concerns. They may need a full-back to replace Sergio Reguilon and that open channel to Tottenham Hotspur has raised the prospect of Ryan Sessegnon,” Delaney wrote on The Independent (h/t TBRFootball).

The 23-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the North London club and he needs to leave to get his career back on track.

He was regarded as a top-class prospect when he joined the club from Fulham for a fee of around £25 million. However, the transfer has not gone according to plan.

Sessegnon is versatile enough to operate as a left-back as well as a winger. He was expected to help Spurs improve going forward, but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under different managers.

A permanent move away from Tottenham could be ideal for the talented young defender.

Manchester United had Sergio Reguilon on loan during the first half of the season, but they have decided to send the Spaniard back to Tottenham this month. They will need cover in the left-back department and it remains to be seen whether they can sign Sessegnon before the window closes.

The 23-year-old is yet to start a single league game the season. He started just nine league games last season and 13 the season prior to that.

It is evident that he is not a key player for Tottenham and he is unlikely to get ample opportunities to showcase his qualities at the London club. A January move would be ideal for all parties and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
