Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has revealed the reason behind his choice of shirt number.
The 22-year-old central defender has chosen the number 37 shirt at the north London club and he has revealed the emotional reason behind his choice. Van de Ven revealed that he picked the number in honour of his late friend who passed away when they were younger.
He said (h/t Mail Sport): “A friend of mine, he passed away when we were younger, and it was always his favourite number. So when I had the opportunity to choose No 37 when I signed for Tottenham… to be honest, it’s for him.”

The former Wolfsburg defender has been a quality signing for Tottenham so far and he has already established himself as a key player for them. The Dutch international is quite young and he is only going to get better with coaching and experience. He has all the tools to develop into one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Tottenham fans will certainly be delighted with his performances so far and they will hope that he can continue to develop and improve as a player.
Van de Ven has formed a reliable partnership at the back with Cristian Romero so far, and he will need to continue to perform at a high level in order to hold onto his starting spot. Tottenham invested in Radu Dragusin during the January transfer window and the Romanian will be looking to push for a starting berth as well.
Tottenham paid around €50 million for the Dutch defender and they will be delighted with the return on their investment so far. The transfer could even look like a bargain if Van de Ven continues to perform at this level in the coming months.
