Time Bomb: 3 First Team Stars Demanding More Than Just A New Stadium

By The Boy -

A source close to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club tells the Harry Hotspur blog that a number of senior players are waiting to see what unfolds in terms of transfer spend before deciding their own footballing futures.

Which in isolation is hardly breaking news.

Context however is always king.

Any normal person would wish to believe that the very life-force of a football team (senior players) would be completely ‘on message’ at this extremely late stage in proceedings.

Sadly, this isn’t the case.

Football really isn’t a complicated business – being an investment company is however an immensely complex.

Toby’s expires in 2019.

If you want to provoke me, if you’re really that dumb, I can ably share with you what a hugely important player he’s been all season.

Jan’s the same.

And yet he’s not agreed to golden handcuffs either.

Christian’s current deal runs out in 2020.

Yet all we are fed is a mumbled talk of an impasse in negotiations.

Spurs the football club are at a very dangerous crossroads.

The full extent of the danger was heralded very clearly to all concerned when Kyle Walker quit.

Compounded by Danny Rose also going rogue, despite the incredibly bright future pitch from all at ENIC.

Pause.

Did Danny Rose and Kyle Walker ever strike you as the shiniest pennies in the draw?

No.

So their desire to bail was clearly more than troubling.

The Harry Hotspur blog source believes that key players are still waiting before they decide to commit – which is frankly bizarre.

What’s the counter argument?

There simply isn’t one – or they would have eagerly agreed new deals.

Or were the dumb dumbs not championing contract extensions up until…

…they became few and far between?

Bottom line?

Players, like clear thinking fans, are impervious to the money being troweled into the stadium.

They are all about the intentions of the club.

If were to draw up a list of meaningful Jan purchases by any English side, it would be a pitifully short one.

Not to mention every agent in the known world will know Levy has a gun against his head.

The ‘couldn’t find a player good enough’ line is going to get us publicly mocked. Again.

Is levy giving the agents the silent treatment like he gives the fans?

Chickens coming home to roost Mr Levy,
Why shouldn’t this be expected when someone wants some assurances in
‘what in reality is happening with this so called project?’
Or
‘Can you explain to me Mr chairman before I sign a deal, Why should I stay?’

I am no Levy apologist but anyone could pick any player in any club that other club’s scouts missed. Everyone else obviously didn’t spot Deli, Son, Dyer, Davison…I could go on…

That’s assuming there is a scouting network!?!?!? That left back at Liverpool was less than Davies, who was alot better on sat but not a great season so far, so how have we missed him?? I got a feeling if there are additions in Jan it may be soften another blow tho…

No more games for you then. (No Win bonuses) go train with the reserves. “Damand? not round here mate. When you leave at the end of the season, never come back to this club. You’re barred for life. No legends games for you in the future. “Demamd? Who the hell do you think you are PELE? 🙂 🙂 🙂 now get out of my office.

I’d think they’re more concerned about the intentions of the club with respect to the wages on offer than the intentions about signings/squad strengthening. The stadium a club happens to play in is about the last thing a footballer cares about behind 1. Wages, 2. Squad quality/silverware potential/champs league, 3. Manager/staff, 4. City/location/quality of life.

For a few that are late in their careers, the order of the above may change slightly. If you’ve been on 200k/week for several years at a perennially midtable outfit, I can see taking a wage cut for a chance at glory. ENIC can’t be bothered to offer Tobes and Eriksen the market rate, but sure didn’t have a problem giving the bald weirdo a pay rise, and the bald midget hasn’t ever scored a goal or even put a cross into the box. Baldy out.

The month of January will be very telling in the land of Spurs. If,as I suspect,no new players arrive to augment the squad then the senior players in particular will see that the extent of our ambition has already been reached. They won’t mind leaving in that case.
As many posters have already pointed out the replacement cost and salaries of any new players will far outstrip paying our guys what they are worth.
Allegedly the cost of the stadium would have no impact on transfer policy, which if you buy nobody would be true.If we had a proper scouting team, there are players who could be brought in at the sort of money Levy is prepared to spend and they would improve the squad.
Unfortunately Poch repeats the old mantra about not buying for the sake of it.If you are not going to promote players from the academy then additions are necessary to boost the choice and quality of the squad.

So what your saying is they want a chance to win trophies and get paid the going rate??? Unreasonable in my opinion. Hang on tho, why would Toby want to accept less than say van dick? He’s not because even if he doesn’t realise his own worth, his agent certainly will. And these 3 contracts are just a little bit more important than a stadium. Because a stadium won’t help deliver clean sheets and create chances for harry. And so while they have dodged it for a while, they now need to show some ambition for and commitment to our club and give these people what they are worth. You can’t stand there and say Christian is worth 100m player, then pay him at a 69m player and expect him to be happy. I’d like to think that it has dawned on them that to replace these players with people of a similar quality is gonna cost a transfer fee then the equivalent in wages anyway

I am afraid of agreeing with you Harry, as I might be called a yes man again by some random mincer…..new people commenting have pro Levy attitudes. Have ENIC employed Macedonian hackers?

As a footballer even if I wanted to stay for ever I’d still run my contract down to the wire. Then demand big bucks for honouring my previous contract.

You buy a football club you buy the obligation to run football as the primary business. Everything else flows from that. If you divert the focus away from that you destroy the club from the inside out. It eats away bit by bit until all that remains is a facade a mere shell of the original. That is the direction we are heading towards under the stewardship of ENIC.
