No two ways about it, that was an emphatic win last night, and so this seems a pertinent opportunity to remind ourselves that the phrase, ‘you can only beat who’s in front of you‘ actually has no meaning or substance to it whatsoever. Much like the ever tedious ‘careful what you wish for‘, these are in fact nonsequiturs designed to stifle free expression. If you disagree with a point being made, then articulate why.
What did we learn from watching Spurs put another 4 goals past Wolfsberger? For me, this only proved that we were playing a sorry bunch of Austrians that would probably fare better in the Eurovision Song Contest, than the Europa League.
Dele Alli scored, made 2 assists, and 3 shot assists. Gareth Bale scored and made 1 shot assist, against Wolfsberger. If they can cause as much havoc against any of our forthcoming Premier League opponents, then the boys will have my curiosity. If they can turn it on again, against Manchester City in the League cup final, then and only then, they will have my attention.
Is that a miserable outlook? Well, that’s how professional sports works. No cups and no medals for turning over a side that are out of their depth.
