This Fan Nails The Lack Of Critical Thinking From Those That Want Mourinho Sacked

By The Boy -

The logic employed here is faultless. Pochettino was indulged endlessly. If you wish to contest that, then try this for size, the guy was fired, leaving nothing but a farewell note on a whiteboard, because the football was as bad as it is now, and we were drifting towards the relegation placings. Yet this morning, this turned up on my timeline.

As I’ve suggested previously, Mourinho arrived with too much baggage for the fragile of mind to cope with at both Manchester United, and Spurs. So indulgence is in such short supply, some would rather continue pining over the last failure than give the Portuguese a break.

Instead, disrespectful poison discussing the existence or lack thereof of a break clause in José’s contract is doing the rounds.

This fan makes some great points, but his ability to think rationally, reasonably, empathically will count for nought to those who believe ANYONE else could rescue this squad’s fortunes.

This place will do it’s utmost to discuss our situation in a balanced manner. Those that don’t wish to involve themselves in critical thinking are very welcome to post elsewhere. I’m told that the Internet is very big, so you’ll soon find somewhere.

Pre season cups are more like friendlies… The league cup is generally less desired than the FA cup, but for many teams its a route to the ropey… Usually a big team wins it though.. Give me a league cup over 100 Audi cups.

Read again. I said the league cup is more important!…. Don’t tell me what to do, this isn’t your blog, only the Boy and Bruce can order me here… All you get is my middle finger for being a dipstick.

I didn’t say I’d rather it, did I? No I didn’t, so stop trying to put words into other people’s mouths.

I’d rather top 4, but I’m of the opinion that winning The Mickey Mouse Cup holds no more cache than top six.

Clubs like City generally win it because they are ambitious clubs with big squads full of quality that can rotate and put out strong sides when most go weaker to prioritise staying in the division, getting top 4 or whatever.

It’s a largely insignificant add on for this clubs and for us it’s the only thing we’ve won in 22 years. Embarrassing, whereas playing in the Champions League and beating Real Madrid wasn’t. Quite so much…

Man city are the holders. They’ve won it the past 2 or 3 years…. Less important than top 6? Rubbish.. Winning the league cup is a title and automatically enters the club into the ropey.. The top 6 ropey qualification can change depending on who wins the league cup…. Give me the league cup over top 6 any day… And you bang on about the lack of trophies the past 20 years.. Yet you would rather top 6? Christ almighty.

Oh yeah, totally staged. Levy walks into Jose’s office as the ‘hidden’ camera collects the footage. You can even see in the way he walks in that it’s staged because he’s such a terrible actor.

This is just scripted garbage presented in the style of a documentary. Amazon have a formula but I see it selling in other parts of the world to people dipping their toe into ‘soccer’.

I’ve yet to meet a British football watcher who have even taken these things seriously. All quite embarrassing really, the Liverpool one was slated when Rogers was there. Didn’t deter Levy though did it…

You can’t keep a scam going for 22 years without some fairly cunning PR manipulation and specific individuals willing to play their part. Particularly the commander in chief. Levy has always been there to head the whole thing up, to pretend.

His lack of interviews with the media is telling, over 22 years. The ones I’ve seen look utterly staged, not an interview, more another means to manipulate and spin…

We have all been guilty of the tribalist mindset of edging towards being pro Jose and anti-Poch and vice versa. Honestly though, anyone fully signed up to such blame apportionment towards the managers, past or present are totally missing the point. In fact I’d say they’re relatively thick..

100%

Jose has come with too much cache and experience to put up with it. He’s just given up as have the players, the culture of failure is endemic at the club.

I’d argue that Poch tolerated these questionable working conditions for an extended period because it was the biggest job he’d ever had and he had to see it through to the best of his ability, or at least until it hit the inevitable buffers which it did.

Levy is really of questionable character, the level of feigning ambition on the football side to facilitate the workings of the investment company is absolutely horrible. I’m guessing he sleeps well at night though…

I agree that Jose needs more players but putting all of his woes down to not getting Skrinaar is pushing it somewhat.

Jose presided over new deals for Both Dier and Toby a few months after arriving. He saw the LoCelso deal made permanent, he oversaw he much hyped summer transfer window.

Yes, job far from finished and we know all about the squad neglect Levy has enforced over the last few years but given all of the above, the team should be doing far better than it is currently. It should at least be in touch with the top four places in my opinion, otherwise what was the point in employing a ‘serial winner’?

Excuses are fine but he has to take responsibility for the decisions he has been involved with.

He signed Lindeloff for Utd from Benfica who wasn’t much good for them and another defender, and several others from Portugal and Brazilians, clearly his picks. You get to a point where the buck stops with you, Jose is at that point with Spurs now. As unfair as it might seem.

East Stand
East Stand

Personally I feel there are a few things going on here.

Firstly Jose is a terrible fit for a club that buy younger and cheap, he’s never worked in that environment before.

Secondly we have the neglect of the squad that started over two years before Poch left and that extended period of neglect was smoothed over by Poch and his methods as he’d been at the club several seasons and his methods were in place. Take that away and the actual reality of the squad issues come to the fore, almost immediately.

Levy uses managers, not to bring success but to make him and the PR spin work. Jose was clearly hyped as a sign of intent, as if all those years of not quite getting it over the line with Poch are over, the ‘winner’ is here now! It’s time we won big now we’ve got the new place.

Without allowing Jose to shape the squad effectively to his own requirements it was always doomed to failure. If you want manager to work with what you have, use younger players and develop them, you just DON”T hire a manager like Jose.

The last aspect is that Jose’s golden period as a serial winner had in reality begun to end a while before he came to Spurs. He was unemployed, he’d been working as a pundit and it was no secret. he took the Spurs job perhaps unwisely because he had no other offers from a big club.

He wanted one last crack at it but the fit was so bad that it was never going to be the environment to rebuild his reputation after Chelsea and Utd in the he perhaps hoped.

He tried but it was never ever going to work. Some of us said it all along, other’s went against all logic in the hope that something might stick. ‘Hope’ and ‘Levy’ are two words that should ever share the same sentence…

It seems there’s a grey area. Now I didn’t want Jose, it was a PR move for the amazon doc, we clearly didn’t have the chairman who would give him the funds for the players required…..and he’s Chelsea. That said Im not going to blame him for this situation cos most of us here know who’s to blame. The problem I had was the expectation he was going to do anything different to the point of Poch getting slandered with the old ‘here comes a winner now….we will see what’s what…Poch isn’t in this league..etc’ . No. Its not the case. You could regenerate Shankly and he would be 10th. Mourinho has a winning CV but here is where managers come to slowly die under ENIC investments company structure. Poch did work wonders, that’s why he’s loved , but nobody is a match for the soul sucking machine of commercial and corporate gumpf that permeates through this ex football club. Send em all….keep sending em….Jose, Rodgers, Redknapp, Hasenhuttl, f_–\#g anyone…..Nobody’s a winner here. Nobody.

Personally I feel sorry for Jose, hes always going to get hounded and abused by our awful main stream media. All these brainwashed fans are going to hate. I worry that whilst Levy works wonders from a corporate view point his understanding on footballing matters is dire excuse the pun. His constant interfering with team selection, players bought players sold, finding cheaper alternatives and lack of manager support is staggering, it really needs to stop. We desperately need a qualified Director of Football and keep Levy as far away from footballing decision as possible. Jose needs the support of a footballing understanding person to identify whats needed, identify the correct candidates and to go out and get the deals done. Do them at the start of the window so they have time to settle in not 30 secs before the window closes.
We knew 2 years ago the squad was passed it sell by date and a complete overhaul was required so I dont see that 2 years later without the quality investment needed why we are blaming the manager. Now a complete overhaul doesnt have to happen overnight but the individuals brought in need to be quality that fits the managers philosophies etc. Bringing in cheaper alternatives doesnt cut the mustard. I thought with the speed Levy brought in Pierre maybe something finally clicked with levy but that thought and excitement was soon dead. Jose made it clear central defence was an urgent requirement and Levy failed badly. Skrinaar should have been done as at the time skrinaar was out of favour and not in the team. Now he is in favour and back on top form his price will surely go up, another opportunity like many others levy has failed on. As far as centre backs are concerned I would like to see Jose use a back 3 where possible but with the right players. at present the players would be Rodon Tobi & Tanganga, youth and agility with a wise head in between. I would say to Dier the project hasnt worked and I would Play him with Pierre as a defensive midfielder. This offers great protection for the defence as Dier can drop in when we are under attack plus Dier once upon the time was able to pop the ball about, was reasonably creative and has a great engine. I would then have Reg and Aurier as flying wing backs over lapping son and Bale on the wings. I think time is needed for Jose to make key personnel changes this summer and he should be backed and if the experiment doesnt work then his contract isnt extended and we part ways after next season where i believe other managers highlighted such as nagalsman simeoni and even rogers are coming to the end of their current deals and this would save paying of Jose and buying out other manager contracts

Let’s see now, from early on Mourinho decides he doesn’t wish to work with some players including Dele, Bale & Rose, and the early season results go his way. He then suffers some bad results with performances desperate, now Mourinho has reverted his original thinking and turned to Bale and Dele to show a level of form and commitment to pull him out the sh0t !
That’s how it looks !

Sure look, we love the banter and the points of articles. When you look at the ice on the top of a frozen lake you blame the top layer of ice you see for the frozen condition you assume the entire lake has. It’s all you see. There’s a lot of water and life below the ice of the lake laughing at the concept that we base our judgements on this lake on a top layer of ice.
Every season the ice thaws and comes back.

When we were doing well under Poch (Chasing leicester and Chelsea for the PL), it was built under a great defence with Toby and Jan, and even Wimmer did well when called upon at first. I would love to keep kane and Sonny if we could get some great CB’s in and see what we could do then.

Many other examples, not just yesterday:
1 – an attack breaks down, Lloris has the ball, opponents have 6 or 7 players in or near our penalty area. Lloris holds on to the ball until all the opponents have recovered before releasing it 10 yards to Dier/Sanchez. Opportunity lost to spring a counter attack.
2 – player with the ball can’t see any options for a meaningful pass, decides to pass it to a teammate who is in a worse position. That player immediately returns the pass. Ad infinitum.
3 player receives the ball with an opponent behind him. Stops, half turns invites a “one on one” with the opponent. Why not just run up field with the ball?
4 – pass and move? Most players pass the ball and remain stationary, or EVEN hide after making the pass. They don’t want the responsibility of trying anything.
5 players pass to a teammate running towards them with an opponent on their heels. The teammate usually has no option but to clip the ball back to the first teammate. Why not pass in front of team mates so they are moving in the right direction?#
Virtually every team I have seen this season doesn’t do this sort of rubbish to the extent that Spurs do. Even Sheffield Utd, WBA and Brentford.
Surely it is intelligent to play with intensity from the start to put your opponents on the back foot, get a lead and pressurise them into opening up. WH just shut up shop yesterday with a 2 goal lead and despite all the better looking football and chances we made in the last half hour we would have been lucky to get a draw.

Perhaps I could have said ENIC OR the recruitment process (Hitchen etc).

I never fully understood what happened with the Skriniar? Didn’t Hitchen go over to Milan to get the lad but we wouldn’t cough up the market rate for a quality defender?
That would seem to involve Levy/ENIC. There may have been something in it or maybe not also. I don’t know.

I can empathise with Jose that there are “some things you cannot coach”. But at the same time he obviously sees something in Dier that for me at least, i don’t. We all know about his thoughts on Sanchez from his time at utd.

Agree with everything you have said. Each time West Ham attacked I was more focused on Dier and praying he would position himself correctly but he rarely did. The amount of slide tackles he has to employ is testament to his lack of positional awareness.

Two new centre backs are a must, but even as an avid Spurs fan since the mid eighties, I couldn’t begrudge Kane or Son a move at the seasons end. They deserve so much more success than we can offer and for me at least, it falls on ENIC and the recruitment process.

But, I wonder if Japhet or Rodon might be a better choice at CB than Dier. I’d even throw him back at cdm and get Tanguy further up just to move him out of the defence.

It doesn’t matter what anybody thinks the economics say no sacking.
We are seeing his records tumble at Spurs we have broken him.
Having said that as an on-the-fencer Dier & Sanchez didnt pick themselves yesterday.
I doubt there were many (any) who looked at a combination of
Lloris/Sanchez/Dier who thought “clean sheet”
before the game.

To those that want Jose out, i would love to see a manager brought in that would have changed Eric Dier’s mind about actually defending the ball for their first goal, and the calamity defending that resulted in their second. The game starts, and we are a goal down and chasing the game, so game plan gone out the window. Without the calamity defending, 1-0 to us, and no shouting for Jose to be sacked, it’s that simple to me.. For what it’s worth, this coming transfer window, any money generated should be spent on two quality center backs. Confidence in a team has to come from the whole, and when the forwards see defending like that…

The reality is Spurs are a selling club and have never looked to build a team

The Poch years were great but failure to add to the squad for 3 windows destroyed the good momentum that was building

Joses left with a defrosted Iceland shopping bag of a squad and we looked jaded

It is frustrating that Jose always needs halftime to make them play well, but we had the same problem with Poch so it stinks of the players being idiots and wimps. But we are dull to watch and dull football is only good if you win.

Said fact is that we have been in a better position than this and the club didnt build on it and we are back in the perpetual round of start of a project/rebuild – sack the manager- rebuild.

Yawn. All pochs fault. Again. While we are in the subject of history then let’s analyze this. Every single club that man leaves he leaves a dressing room that is in bits. We were told we will get winning football. Stop me where I’m wrong, we ain’t winning many games. It isn’t pochs fault he picks a different back 4 every game and different systems. It isn’t pochs fault that he continues to pick Eric dier, the most aptly named footballer in the league unless sanchez changes his name to clown. It isn’t even pochs fault that those players are there you see, its the chairman who was advised to act like a big club and promptly brought in gedson Fernandez, and continues to ask for unrealistic prices for people who the last manager knew were good enough and to be fair the current one does as well. So stop the poch bashing, as I said yesterday your looking to divert blame from a man who won plenty, but with the players at his disposal should have done and ultimately the real culprit still looms in the background, after reading social media yesterday no doubt fed some happy horse poo to the press about Brendon Roger’s. We must have the most deluded fan base in history. Let’s see. Leave Leicester who are on the up, have a scouting network, a family who back the manager and come to this?? Oh yeah he can get a pint that fills from the bottom and tickets for the Oakland raiders, and gedson Fernandez to bolster his options. Point fingers where they should be

There is no way on “insert deity” green earth that Jose sends the team out to play the way they do. The 2nd half was actually a reasonable effort to get back into the game and Spam were there for the taking. However, we seem to have a midfield that is incapable of shooting outside the box and when Kane & Son are off target its’ game over.
Give him money to build a defence and we are back to being top 4, give him more money to replace Deli, Moura, Lamela then we may go on to win something. Here we are again waiting desperately for the summer transfer window………
