Spurs sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50 million and then proceeded to throw another £100 million into replacing him. That’s a story that most fans know all too well, and the feeling now is that between Emerson Royal’s improvement and the arrival of Pedro Porro, it is one that will eventually have a happy ending.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke spoke to Give Me Sport and has passed a comment on the other side of our backline, which given the neglect, is a fair comment. O’Rourke told the publication:
“For Tottenham, they hope they’ve solved the right wing-back position bringing in Pedro Porro and they’ll be hoping that Udogie will be the final piece of the jigsaw for that defence as well, for the left-wing back position next season. He will bring extra competition for places, so that can be only good for Spurs in the long term.”
How much money is Tottenham about to blow in replacing the highly revered Jan Vertonghen? So far the club has been fortunate in that Ben Davies has been able to step in because Ryan Sessegnon has not just been a washout, he’s been an injury-riddled washout.
As for Ivan Perišić, the Croatian is a magnificent player and had a tremendous World Cup in Qatar, however, he’s not getting any younger.
Looking at Destiny Udogie, the immediate reaction perhaps is one of seeing a precious talent. Certainly, as far as fitting into the system demanded by Antonio Conte, the 20-year-old certainly fits the job description.
Hopefully, the boy will be raiding up and down the left wing next season in the Lilywhite, after ending his current spell at Serie A side Udinese – where he has continued to develop and impress – producing 3 goals and 2 assists to his name from 19 top-flight games over there, this season so far.
Fingers crossed, Spurs get it right. On the left.
