‘They have got to have a go’: Tottenham urged to sign 27-year-old PL star in January

By Saikat -

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

A move during the January transfer window could be on the cards when the player returns from suspension. He is currently suspended for breaching the FA gambling regulations and he will return to action midway through January.

A number of English clubs have been linked with a move for the striker and former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Tottenham should look to make a move for him in January. Merson has revealed to Sky Sports that if Tottenham are in the top four during the January transfer window, they should look to sign Toney.

Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:26pm, September 23, 2023): “If Tottenham are in the top four, they have got to have a go.

“They have got to have a go. But it all depends on where they are in the table.”

The 27-year-old has proven himself to be a reliable goal scorer in the Premier League and he could transform Tottenham in the attack. Ange Postecoglou is yet to replace Harry Kane and Richarlison has not been able to live up to the expectations. Someone like Toney will add more cutting edge in the final third and he could prove to be an upgrade on Richarlison as well.

The 27-year-old Brentford striker will look to take the next step in his career and joining a top-six club like Tottenham could be ideal for him.

The Brentford striker is unlikely to come cheap and a report from talksport claims that he is valued at around £60 million. It will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy is willing to fund a big money move for the striker midway through the season.
