“They actually stunned Liverpool” Pundit highlights the effect of new role for Spurs man

Moussa Sissoko has been one of the more reliable members of the Tottenham team since Jose Mourinho has been the club’s manager.

Mourinho likes to have a strong midfield that can protect his team when their opponents attack whilst also helping to launch counter-attacks.

The Special One has found the midfield trio of Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg solid and they have played together in most of the club’s league games this season.

Sissoko has played mostly in central midfield, but in Tottenham’s last game against Liverpool, he was moved to the right side of midfield and he did just fine.

Mourinho will have made that tactical change because he wanted to surprise Liverpool, and Michael Brown thinks that the Portuguese manager succeeded in that regards because the Frenchman performed well.

He said that Sissoko has remained a key man for the club and that flexibility makes things better for them, and also means players are buying into Mourinho’s tactics.

Brown told Football Insider: “We’ve seen Sissoko go out wide, so looking at it, they actually stunned Liverpool. Although Liverpool had opportunities and dominated possession, the goal was unfortunate.

“He’s been a real dominant force for Jose and that flexibility to go out on the right-hand side, you’re thinking: ‘That’s not him,’ but he just did well with it.

“The Spurs players seem to be buying into it and are obviously enjoying being towards the top of the league.”
