Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.
The 28-year-old has struggled for regular game time since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and he has been linked with clubs like Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
It is evident that he is not a key part of the Australian manager’s first-team plans. Therefore, it would make sense for him to move on in search of regular playing time.
According to popular pundit Lianne Sanderson, it is evident why the 28-year-old is not a good fit for Tottenham’s current style of play.
The Denmark international put on a mediocre display against Manchester United. He lacked composure with his passing and his work rate was below par as well.
Sanderson believes that he simply does not have the legs to operate in a high-intensity attacking system and therefore Tottenham should look to move him on.
“Hojbjerg, to me, both him and Eriksen, it looks like their legs are done. I’d have Eriksen in a five-a-side all day just like Juan Mata, but the game is bypassing him now, he’s offering nothing. When I see Hojbjerg there were a couple of times, his legs, you must’ve seen it, it didn’t look like he had the legs, he couldn’t get near players, one thing he will always do is compete, that is one thing he’ll always do,” Sanderson said on The Spurs Chat Podcast.
The game passed him by against Manchester United and Tottenham will need someone more suited to their current style of play instead of him.
The Denmark international has been a quality player since joining them from Southampton, but he is lacking the physicality and energy to operate in Tottenham’s current system. It will be interesting to see if he can secure a move away from the club at the end of the season.
