There Was An Interesting Appearance At The Tottenham Player’s Lunch Yesterday

By The Boy -

A source close to the club tells me that there was a player’s lunch yesterday at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and one new face caused a minor stir. The player in question was none other than Norwich City’s Max Aarons.

Has he signed – is this a full-on exclusive? I couldn’t possibly comment. Even if I were asked, ‘H, is this a deal worth in the region on £35million, including add-ons?’ I still couldn’t possibly comment.

We interviewed a prospective manager yesterday too… and you can hear about all that in this video 👇

All I can add is that we were definitely in for the lad 2 months ago, My understanding is that Spurs had held talks at Carrow Road about a January move, but understandably the Canaries didn’t see it as being in their own best interests to weaken a hugely successful Championship season at that time.

Serge Aurier is off, and this will be our new lad – at least that how things appear. We shall see, I guess.

Oh well. I knew it was too good to last. I’ve enjoyed posting recently as there have been some interesting comments but the first time I state the obvious about Aarons – he wasn’t at Hotspur Way – I get the red card. You really do only want people who totally agree which is a shame as it creates rather dull debates but, as you always say, it’s your blog and you can do whatever you want

Indeed, looks a very decent player. 15+17 in 39 games? Our AMs can only dream of those numbers.

Granted, I went on the few interviews I saw, where I felt he lacked presence. Then again, our special group of players didn’t listen to one of the best motivators in the game, so maybe it doesn’t make a difference.

Dunk and White are better CBs than what we have, aren’t they? So the number someone posted about Brighton actually conceding more than their expected goals against is rather worrying – if better CBs are underperforming under Potter, why would Dier and Sanchez do better?

Serge played CL for almost his entire career before joining Spurs, this is silliness in the extreme.

Djimi Traoré has a blood CL winners medal!

He would quit under Levy.

Because he’s worth discussing based on the job he’s done on a shoestring which would appeal to Levy? Yes our tickets are AAA+ but are we going to spend money and rebuild a dysfunctional squad with AAA+ quality.

And Potter is adored in his charity shop… why would he want to jump ship to a jewelry shop with impossible demands from an impossible boss?

Looks like Conte is now rumoured to be leaving Inter, how many managers winning the title and leaving ??? Crazy times !

Well council are not reopening the golf course due to enfield being (reported) 2billion in debt.
So selling probably helps a short sighted council.

So Christophe Galtier is leaving Lille, it’s official. Let him take over at PSG, freeing up Pochettino to come to Spurs. Nothing less will restore faith in the Spurs project. So make it happen, Mr Levy!

You’re being unfair on Potter to say he doesn’t seem much of a motivator. How do you know? He’s actually done an excellent job at Brighton who would have finished much higher if they’d had a goalscorer. Dunk and White are in a different league to Dier and Sanchez too.

I know he can’t defend, so imagine Reg on one side and Aarons on the other, we will concede a lot of goals, it’s the problem of modern FB’s.

I meant that the players that Norwich now target are big, physically strong players who can battle as they believe they were pushed around too easily in the Premier League.

I was (obviously) in agreement, and a jolly nice lad too, but even he was jogging around the place, out of position and not busting a gut to recover defensively for the last few games – thats not the “Harry Kane” attitude I am hoping for from up-and-comers.

But he stayed there.I didn’t see him in the Championship, but what i saw of him in the PL he was found wanting defensively. It can only be hoped he has improved that side of his game. However he is better than both Aurier and Doherty.

We need new players coming in who can hit the ground running. If Potter is the new man,do you not think he would prefer Lamptey. He’s not as tall I think, but a better bet than Aarons to my mind.It would be interesting to see how his long term injury has affected him.

I guess we can only hope Levy has seen the error of his ways and let’s the new man get on with things, but i have my doubts. This is a huge job for somebody.

Would Levy countenance a big clearout? He’s never done it before. He would have to take a hit on several players to see them out of the door.Drastic action is required.

At this point, I don’t really care. The main thing is how Levy will approach this next appointment – will he throw 15M/year at the manager to make him say “great stadium, training facilities, squad” and change nothing, or will he let him drive out the wasters and quickly get in some decent players?

I concur with HH that Potter doesn’t seem much of a motivator, but I also think that if Levy lets him run the rule over the squad and say “Doherty, Dier, Winks, Dele, Sissoko, Aurier, pack your stuff”, it will give him authority by proxy, making the other players sit up and start fighting for their places again.

As it is now, the players know they won’t be punished/sold for poor performances and it will be the guy in charge who gets sacked, while they sit on the bench discussing choccy bars for 100K per week. That has to stop.

Indeed. Leeds have been rather special, a breath of fresh air, so I would hate to see that fall apart, which I think will happen once Bielsa goes. He has the team playing way above their level.

I hope Bielsa doesn’t quit a family club to to join a circus that makes money for it’s owners and precious little else.

What can we offer Bielsa? He would be going from his own established team, a chairman who loves him and will buy him anyone within Leeds’s means, and a club where he’s the hero to…NFL stadium anchor tenants with a squad in disrepair and a micromanaging lunatic potentially watching his every move.

I don’t see Bielsa as someone who would be enticed by 15M/year, and that’s currently our main pull. So I just don’t see any possibility he would come here.

Stronger going forward but is improving his defending, quick can use his pace to recover.

Reads the game well and will provide cover for the centre backs. There’ll be fewer balls coming into the box, he’s a worker too no walking back slowly like Aurier. Will get better with top coaching.

We definitely need a right full back. I think you’ll like him when you see him. He can actually find a man in the box with his cross, really quick and hard working. Basically everything that Aurier isn’t.

Money might be too good to turn down. He might not fit the player profile Norwich want. After relegation they decided to change the type of players they bought.

Tanganga is a CB for sure, good defensively, but isn’t creative or quick enough for a modern full back.
I also worry about all the injuries he’s suffered.

Choc

why would Norwich sell him how they have been promoted unless they feel he’s not good enough for PL?

And Aarons was a Poch target a few summers ago , whereas Manuro passed on him saying he lacked the physicality for Spurs at RB.

serious question though, where’d ya get those specs Harry, I want a pair.

1/ It goes against our transfer policy to sign players early.

2/ IF the new man has given the thumbs up. It’s clear he’s not the man to get us CL football or any kind of silverware, IF this his first signing.

It’s a specialist position now since most attacking play is from full back. Japhet is injured and is more suited to a centre back role I think.

Tanganga looks very competent at RB. Is this a priority even if Aurier is sold? Would we be looking to sign players when we don’t even have a new coach in place? Aarons might not be to the new coach’s liking. I hope Skipp won’t be part of some swap deal. So many questions…

A very useful addition. Attack minded and with end product, will find his man in the box.

Good reader of the game, very quick. Can improve defensively, wish he was a little taller, noted as 5-10.

Well if Max is the first of many in the door and of this quality we might be getting somewhere.

Is the cloud of gloom going to lift even a tiny bit.
Welcome Max, he can play for Jamaica and England so Tappaspur will be happy.

Godfrey of Norwich was a big miss. Can play CD or FB and is in the England squad. Aarons is unproven and looks like an expensive punt by Levy.

Keeping in line with signing prospect over experience.

Potentially signing a player that the new man may not even want.

The Poch thing is ridiculous…way too soon for starters, we still have the same players that let him down the first time…..he’s been at PSG half a season, one a cup, got semi final CL and finished 2nd to a team that deserved to win it…..
