“The world’s his oyster”: Stan Collymore heaps praise on Ange Postecoglou signing

By Saikat -

Former English international Stan Collymore has spoken highly about Tottenham’s latest signing Archie Gray.

The North London club have managed to strike a deal with Leeds United for the services of Archie Gray. The teenager who had an exceptional debut season with Leeds’ first team last season was on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs but Spurs have managed to win the race for the versatile star who can feature in midfield as well as a right-back.

Stan Collymore believes Tottenham have just managed to get their hands on an incredible talent who will get stronger with every passing season. Given the kind of potential he has, Collymore feels the sky is the limit for the teenager.

While talking about Gray’s move to Tottenham, the 53-year-old said to CaughtOffside: “Archie Gray is already nearing a half-century of performances at just 18, so he will know what he’s about as a player. He’s a big lad as well, six foot two, and he’s only going to get bigger, stronger and more versatile in the next two or three years.

“Personally, I think it’s a great move. I’m a massive fan of Tottenham, the way that their Academy has done things etc. The facilities are arguably the best in the world at Spurs Lodge, they don’t necessarily just promote ex-players as coaches in the academy and they’ve got Ange Postecoglou, who’s a very minded open manager.

“Archie Gray and his family are all Celtic fans and love Ange, so I’m really excited. I think it’s the right player, the right move, the right club at the right time and I think that he will get opportunities to play. The world’s his oyster.”

Gray has penned down a six-year deal with Spurs and he is expected to be a part of their first-team right from the start. Collymore feels Tottenham have managed to get their hands on an incredible talent who has proven his pedigree in recent years. He has turned out for England at different age groups and has the potential to be a part of their senior team soon.

Leeds would have loved to have him around for a few more years but their failure to return to the English top-flight has in a way forced them into selling their most prized possession. The move to Spurs could do wonders for Gray as he will be training in one of the best facilities in the country and he will be working under a manager he admires.

Collymore believes Gray has the potential to reach great heights and the move to Tottenham is a great opportunity for him to take the next step in his career.
