The two Tottenham defenders that could hold the key to possible Philippe Coutinho swap deal

Tottenham is considered by Barcelona as one of the English teams that may help them get Philippe Coutinho off their wage bill.

The Spaniards have not been able to get the best out of the former Liverpool star and they want to cut their losses and end their relationship with him.

A report from Sports claims that two Italian teams have turned down the chance of signing him and Barcelona have turned their attention to the English market.

The Catalans also know that it might be hard for them to get the £80 million transfer fee that they desire so they are open to a swap deal.

They want a centre back and a left-back and they are considering Tottenham players in these positions that could be used as a sweetener in the deal.

Mirror Sports has had a look at Tottenham and they have named two defenders at Spurs that could hold the key to this deal.

They claim that centre-half Jan Vertonghen and left-back Ben Davies could be the players that Spurs could use to facilitate the move.

There is obviously one glaring hole in this speculation from the Mirror and that is the fact that Vertonghen will be a free agent at the end of this season, if not sooner.

There is a possibility that Spurs could offer Vertonghen a year extension to his current deal, and then they may be able to offer a deal to Barcelona that would see Coutinho end up at the Tottenham stadium.
