This recent interview with Mourinho is a worry. In fact, to me, it suggests that José has realized that Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is probably the club that will break him. Having never failed to win a trophy in any of his coaching roles, the Portuguese has now found himself at a club that some believe hired the wrong man, and perhaps as many thought the only outcome would be poisonous.
The consensus with most fans was that Mauricio Pochettino was right when he announced that Spurs needed a major rebuild. The squad had huffed and puffed but ultimately failed to achieve anything tangible.
Yet Mourinho was hired, despite showing virtually no evidence in his extensive career for rebuilding. Sure, he could spend, but as far as the 58-year-old’s strategy, it was also to enforce discipline and direction and to systematically achieve results. Did Levy hire the wrong man? Listening to Mourinho’s tape, I’d say the wrong man now realizes accepted the job.
This tape was a mistake in my view, and one see from some responses, his critics are only excited by it further.
