The future of recent Tottenham signing looking shaky after Mourinho report

When Tottenham signed Matt Doherty for just £15 million from Wolves in the summer, many considered the move to be a good one.

The Republic of Ireland international had been showing fine form at Wolves since they got promoted back to the Premier League.

Several teams wanted him and Spurs were certain that they had found an upgrade on the error-prone Serge Aurier.

But Doherty has been so poor that the Ivorian is back ahead of him in the pecking order.

ESPN says Jose Mourinho has been unimpressed with the results that Doherty has been delivering and the Special One is open to selling him.

It says that the wing-back has until the end of this season to save his Tottenham career or he will be sold.

Mourinho has made his standing in the team obvious by starting him just twice this year.

Even in the absence of Aurier, Mourinho has fielded Japhet Tanganga instead of him.

With his team underperforming, it will be hard for the former Chelsea boss to keep giving chances to an underperforming player.

However, the decision to sell or keep him will be made by Daniel Levy and Doherty will hope he gets a stay verdict from the Spurs’ chairman.
