‘the feeling wasn’t mutual’: Former Tottenham star opens up on Postecoglou after exit

Tottenham Hotspur decided to sell Eric Dier during the January transfer window and the defender ended up joining Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old defender spent six months at the club under new manager Ange Postecoglou and he has revealed to the Times that he absolutely loved working with Australian.

Dier feels that he learnt a lot from the Australian manager, and if he were to become a manager in future, his style would replicate that of Postecoglou. The former Tottenham star wanted to continue playing for the north London club under the Australian manager but he believes that the 58-year-old probably did not rate him as highly.

“I absolutely loved working with Postecoglou for six months. I learned so much. If I were to be a manager, of all the managers that I worked with, I feel that my style will probably be most similar to Postecoglou’s. It’s just the feeling wasn’t mutual in terms of playing!”

The Australian manager decided to bring in quality central defenders like Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin this season. Dier had fallen down the pecking order at the club and he needed to leave in order to play regularly.

The 30-year-old was a loyal servant for Tottenham over the years and his ability to slot into multiple roles made him an indispensable asset. He has decided to take up a new challenge at Bayern Munich and it remains to be seen whether he can win trophies with them.

Dier is versatile enough to operate as a fullback, central defender as well as a defensive midfielder. There is no doubt that he has the quality to succeed in German football, and it remains to be seen whether he can establish himself as a key player for Bayern Munich in the coming seasons.
