‘That’s why we’re keeping him’: Ange Postecoglou reveals first-team plan for Tottenham prodigy

By Saikat -

Tottenham academy star Will Lankshear could get an extended run in the first-team following an injury to Richarlison.

Will Lankshear is considered to be one of the most exciting young players in the Tottenham setup and the 19-year-old striker seems set to have an important role in the first team this season. With Richarlison picking up an injury and Dominic Solanke already out inured, the English youth international could soon make his first-team debut.

While talking about the young sensation, manager Ange Postecoglou said via Football London: “Yeah we’ve been really happy with Will. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury in that game against Bristol Rovers, but he should be all right after the window.

“That’s why we’re keeping him with us, him and Mikey (Moore) are the two young players we’re going to keep with the first-team and the reason we’re going to keep them with the first-team is because we feel like they’re going to contribute and play.

“Whether that is Europa League or Carabao Cup or the league, they’re part of the first-team and if Richy is out for an extended period of time, then Will will definitely be a part of it.

“Will and Mikey have done really well in pre-season and we feel they’ll benefit from being around the first-team.”

While the teenager picked up an injury in an EFL Trophy fixture against Bristol Rovers, he is expected to be back in time for their game against Newcastle on Sunday. Postecoglou decided against sanctioning a temporary departure of Lankshear as he feels the teenager will contribute and play for their first team during the 2024/25 season.

He might not have been promoted to their first team yet but he was recently rewarded with a new contract on the back of the progress that he has made in the last two years since joining them from Sheffield United.

Lankshear is all set to be an important part of their first team and the Australian manager has confirmed that if Richarlison is out for a lengthy period of time, the English youth international will definitely play a part for their first team.

Having done well in the pre-season, Postecoglou believes Lankshear will benefit from staying around the first team. Everyone at the North London club is convinced that the youngster has a bright future ahead and with him expected to be back fit, it might not be long before he is handed his debut by the club.
