Tottenham Hotspur have had a reasonably good season so far and they are currently fifth in the league table.
They have impressed fans and neutrals with their high-intensity attacking football. Ange Postecoglou’s brave approach has attracted a lot of praise this season but former Spurs player Gus Poyet believes that Tottenham fans will demand more from the team next season.
He has warned that style over substance might not be acceptable in the long term. Tottenham will be expected to win trophies, and it remains to be seen whether they can end their wait for silverware next season.
Poyet told Sky Sports: “I’ve got plenty of friends who are Spurs fans, and they’re delighted.
“It was a massive change, and they’re really enjoying watching the team now. They know they are going to go for it in any game, in any competition. If they keep getting better there is only one way, which is up.
“The first season has been outstanding for Postecoglou, and next year the fans are going to ask for something more. That’s how it works.
“Can Tottenham win a trophy, or something they have been after for a long time? It’s a good start, it’s a good atmosphere at the club at the moment and everyone is enjoying watching the team at this time.”
They are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and a return to the Premier European competition will help them attract better players and compete at a higher level.
There is no doubt that they have a talented team at their disposal and a quality manager at the helm. The Australian has been quite impressive since taking over and it will be interesting to see if he can guide Tottenham to the next level.
The north London club have not won trophies for quite some time and the fans will be desperate for the team to win something. There is clear progress on the pitch but Tottenham will have to translate that into trophies now.
It is fair to assume that Tottenham might have to change their approach slightly in the coming months. They have looked quite vulnerable defensively at times and a more balanced approach would yield more consistent results in the long term.
