“That is fantastic business” – Daniel Levy’s smart summer business praised as one deal steals the spotlight

Tottenham’s recent transfer dealings have garnered widespread praise, with club insider John Wenham singling out chairman Daniel Levy for his astute business acumen.

Wenham, known for his insights on the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, highlighted the strategic brilliance behind the transfer of 20-year-old forward Jude Soonsup-Bell, who recently left Spurs’ U21 side to join Spanish Segunda División club Córdoba CF.

The transfer of Soonsup-Bell was a free move, but Tottenham ensured they would benefit financially in the future by securing a 40 percent sell-on clause.

This means that if the young forward’s career flourishes and he is sold for a significant fee, Spurs will receive a substantial portion of the proceeds.

Wenham praised this forward-thinking decision, emphasising that Tottenham essentially signed Soonsup-Bell for nothing when they signed him from Chelsea, and have now positioned themselves to profit from any future success the player may achieve.

Soonsup-Bell showcased considerable promise during his time with Tottenham’s U21 team, where he scored 12 goals and provided 8 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions last season.

Despite his potential, Tottenham are well-stocked with emerging talent, making it a strategic decision to allow the young forward to move on while still maintaining the potential for future financial gain.

Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham expressed his admiration for the deal, saying:

“I’m not surprised that he has left the club. Although he did magnificently well last season, Spurs basically signed him for nothing when he came from Chelsea.

“They have now ensured that if he develops into a top player, they will bank 40 per cent of any future sale. That is fantastic business from Levy and the club.

“He could soon become a La Liga player and be sold on for a sizeable fee, who knows. From Spurs’ point of view, they have several young talents coming through and it is about moving players on at the right time.”

Tottenham’s approach to the Soonsup-Bell transfer is a prime example of the club’s commitment to both player development and financial prudence.

By securing a significant sell-on clause, Spurs have ensured they remain invested in the player’s future success, a strategy that continues to impress and positions the club well for sustained success.
