talkSPORT’s Ian Abraham coldly slaps down Paul Coyte after Harry Kane tweet

After many, many years at Tottenham, barking out an unquestioning ‘go team’ narrative, despite all the evidence to question this unrelentingly upbeat position, Paul Coyte was recently released into the real world by ENIC. Perhaps even ENIC realized the supporters were due a change. The former match-day master of ceremonies may be finding assimilating back into the real world tougher than he thought.

A podcast’s social media account referenced Harry Kane’s 23rd spot in the recent Ballon D’or awards. ‘Coytey’ then asked, what’s a fella gotta do? The Moose gave the former Spurs man a swift dose of reality.

The truth is, that beneath all the hype and bluster surrounding Spurs, Harry Kane has failed to lift a single piece of silverware during his lengthy time in Haringey. Since Kane’s dismal showing in a Champions League final, the England captain has now sunk so far down the rankings that his team was beaten by NS Mura in the third tier of European football.

Ouch.

I agree. Before Messi and Ronaldo the award was based on individual achievements. At times they both deserved it, but in general it was who’s team won the most.

Messi only won it this year because of the Copa America really. They should have gave it to Lewandowski just for 2020 alone. Best striker in the world and won the treble with Bayern.

Messi won best player at the world cup because the award is given by Adidas, with Messi being sponsored by Adidas and them being the main sponsor for the world cup too.

Seems absurd to me giving it to Messi and Ronaldo all the time. Messi won best player at one World Cup where his general form had been somewhat patchy.

Exactly! Though, no doubt disillusioned with life at the Levy emporium, he hasn’t been too hot for us so far this time around.

Sorry, Harry, can’t agree with you on this one. Tom Finney was world class (Shankly and Docherty and others rated him as GB’s greatest ever player. Actually, Shankly rated him as the absolute greatest anywhere!) and HE didn’t win anything, though PNE finished second twice (once beaten by the Gunners on goal average only) and third once and lost the Cup Final in 1954.

Messi and Ronaldo would possibly have won nothing if they had played for us, and certainly for our present team.

Would he have become world class if Tottenham had won the league cup? Harry Kane is a world class player. He plays for an average team

Indeed. He had many years of service at WHL. His half time interviews and ‘Up The Spurs’ were a thing of rare beauty.

Yeah that’s right, unless I missed something besides the mighty triumph that was the league cup 13 years ago?

Just our European “friends” being their usual obnoxious selves. They just can’t help themselves. Thank God we’re an island.

Oh do behave Ian Abraham. The fact Spurs haven’t won anything in the past few years is actually irrelevant to the ballon d’or for that specific year – it’s all about what you’ve achieved that calendar year, not historically (and Moose supports West Ham btw…) Yet Karim Benzema finishes 3rd in the ratings behind Lewandoski (despite not winning a thing with Madrid and racking up less goals and assists than Kane). And he scored less international goals. Go figure

It was not from the club. It was from Paul Coyte who has nothing to do with club

So it’s got nothing to do with the individual but all to do with whether the individual’s team is any good. Ridiculous. ‘He can’t be a world class player, he’s never won anything’. Another ridiculous phrase

The Balon D’or is a joke. Messi has not deserved at least 2 of his. However, as you say, its hard to say Kane deserves it either. Being the best chef at McDonalds does not get you a Michelin star.

Once again proves that winning things is the metric.

Why did Mason finish above Kane? Maybe that fat champions league winners medal around his neck has something to do with it.

The club spin as many ‘positives’ they can scratch around for and condescendingly present them to the fanbase and the rest of the world as ‘evidence’ that the football club are in a great place.

Kane’s stats, training ground, stadium. That’s it, that’s all we ever hear about, oh and that sodding vegetable patch…

No trophies, poor league position, record signings carried out without basic due diligence. Then they trot out stats of a player that clearly wants out of Levy Land, just how out of touch are these plonkers?

The reality some don’t want to hear. The ballon d’or is driven by players winning things. Especially if your name is Messi.

If Lewandowski the best player over the last 2 seasons can’t win it, because of a pandemic and Messi winning a international trophy, what chance has Kane got.

For all the good Kane has done individually that’s not how the narrative of the ballon d’or works anymore.
