Talksport pundit claims 36-year-old manager has been ‘approached’ by Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of managers in recent weeks, especially with the future of Antonio Conte uncertain.

The 53-year-old Italian manager will be a free agent in the summer and there have been rumours that he could look to return to Italy. Tottenham have not agreed on a new deal with him yet but they have the option to trigger a one-year extension in his contract.

Talksport pundit Alan Brazil has now revealed (h/t HITC) that Tottenham have approached the Burnley manager Vincent Kompany to be their next manager.

“Here’s a little one for you,” said Brazil. “I can’t confirm if this is 100% or not. I was told that Vincent Kompany was approached by Spurs. I can’t tell you (who told me).

“What’s more important? Who told me or is it true? I thought ‘crikey’. Maybe because he has run away with the Championship. Brilliant.”

The 36-year-old has done an exceptional job at the Championship club so far and Burnley are currently on top of the table. They are favourites to secure promotion back to the Premier League and Kompany’s exploits have certainly caught the attention of the top Premier League clubs.

Burnley have played exciting attacking football under the Belgian and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham decide to appoint him as the replacement for Conte. They have been linked with their former manager Mauricio Pochettino as well.

While the 36-year-old is still unproven at the highest level, he is a talented young manager with a big future ahead of him.
