TalkSport man says Spurs star ‘will never be world-class’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Despite his recent stunning performance, TalkSport pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Spurs striker Richarlison will never be “world-class.”

The Brazilian stole the show in Brazil’s opener against Serbia, scoring both goals, including a stunning scissor kick that will go down as one of, if not the, goal of the tournament.

But the former Aston Villa man remains unconvinced by Richarlison, claiming that he is not consistent enough to be considered ‘elite.’

During a discussion on TalkSport, the pundit stated (1:24):

“I don’t think he’ll ever be world-class. When I look at him, he’ll have a game like that today [for Brazil] but then he does it for Spurs.

“Sometimes he’ll have these great games, but then the next game you think he’s ordinary. So I don’t think he’s going to go to that elite level.”

Agbonlahor did concede that he has been often wrong about things and could be wrong about this too. He added:

“But I might be wrong like I am with a lot of stuff.”

Spurs signed the Brazilian for a club record fee of £60m, and to be fair on Agbonlahor, Richarlison has not been very consistent in the Premier League, having not scored yet in 10 appearances.

However, he has repeatedly demonstrated his quality for the national team, scoring 19 goals and providing 7 assists in 39 appearances, and 9 in his last 7 games.

Those are stats of an elite player but he will have to consistently produce those numbers in the league as well in order to be called world-class.
