Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Conor Gallagher in recent weeks.
The 23-year-old Chelsea player could leave Stamford Bridge and journalist Paul Brown claims that it wouldn’t be surprising if Tottenham came forward with a proposition to sign the player towards the end of the window.
Although Tottenham have not made any concrete moves to sign the player so far, Brown claims that Daniel Levy might come forward with a lowball offer for the player to test Chelsea’s resolve.
He wrote on GMS: “So sources at Tottenham were very quick to come out and deny that any talks have taken place between the clubs for Conor Gallagher, but we do know that the club likes Gallagher a lot It wouldn’t surprise me if Daniel Levy tries a lowball offer towards the end of the window just to test Chelsea’s resolve because Chelsea are asking quite a lot of money for Conor Gallagher, and I don’t think Spurs are going to spend that kind of money on anyone this month. But as we get closer to the end of the window, we’ll start to see just how desperate Chelsea are to bring some cash in by the end of January. I think that is what the Spurs’ strategy might be here. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you see some action for Gallagher in the last couple of days of the window.”
Gallagher has established himself as a key player for Chelsea and he has kept them a few times this season. He could prove to be a superb addition to the Tottenham midfield if he joins them.
The North London club need more depth in the middle of the park and Gallagher would be the ideal acquisition for them in terms of playing style. Ange Postecoglou’s high intensity attacking system needs a midfielder who will add work rate, energy and pressing ability to the side. The 23-year-old Chelsea star is blessed with all three qualities.
The midfielder is still relatively young and he could improve further with coaching and experience. Tottenham do well to secure his signature this month.
The North London outfit currently pushing for Champions League qualification and signing a player like him would improve them immensely and help them finish the season strongly.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. If they fail to sign him in January, a summer move could be on the cards.
