Jose Mourinho’s team selection for today’s FA Cup tie at Southampton provided lots of talking points for the Tottenham Twittersphere.
A full debut for Gedson Fernandes alongside Harry Winks, passed fit after limping off against Norwich, and the improving Giovani Lo Celso makes for an exciting midfield combination, with Tanguy Ndombele in reserve.
On the flip side, there is some concern about the use of Japhet Tanganga out of position again at left-back, after his struggles playing there at Watford.
Back to the positives – Mourinho has named close to his strongest available side for the fourth-round tie, in contrast to the unpopular approach of his predecessor. Toby Alderweireld, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli all start, and there is no place in the squad for the outgoing Christian Eriksen, at last.
But one thing that has really miffed some Spurs fans is the continued snub of Troy Parrott who is absent from even the bench despite Mourinho’s suggestions that the kid striker is on the verge of more first-team minutes.
These Spurs fans are worried we could lose him, if we don’t use him…
Where the f*** is Troy?— ライ🐦 (@plast1cmem0ry) January 25, 2020
Good luck at your new club when your contract is up Troy Parrott!— Adam Jaye (@AdamJaye) January 25, 2020
Thought Parrott was getting game time?— 🇮🇱Alli-Baba🇮🇱 (@AlliBaba) January 25, 2020
Such a joke that Parrott isn’t even in the match day squad and playing Tanganga on the left is killing his development but exciting to see a Winks, Lo Celso, Gedson midfield 3. Please just put on a performance Spurs— Max 🌪 (@MaxTHFC_) January 25, 2020
Absolute joke. So after all that sh*t chat about Parrott yesterday he’s not even on the bench still!— Headhunter (@tommckenzie81) January 25, 2020
Does no one understand that we’re even sh***er with Lucas/Son up top?!
What’s the harm in chucking Parrott on for the final 15-20 mins when we will inevitably need a goal??? https://t.co/bfiXuCOWgg
