“Stay on your feet” – Tottenham star slammed for his theatrics during the Newcastle game

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has come under fire from pundit Chris Sutton following Spurs’ recent 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.

Speaking on BBC 606, Sutton expressed his disappointment with Maddison’s behavior during the match, particularly highlighting an incident where the midfielder appeared to dive in an attempt to win a foul.

Sutton, a former Chelsea forward, acknowledged Maddison’s talent and importance to Tottenham but was critical of the player’s decision to engage in theatrics.

He urged Maddison to focus on playing with integrity and avoid unnecessary simulation.

“The winner of the Simulation Game this week, do you know what? It’s James Maddison,” Sutton remarked.

“He’s a great player, a great footballer, but he has history of this. You’re better than that, James Maddison. Stay on your feet, it’s madness from Maddison.”

Despite the criticism, Maddison has had a decent start to the season with Tottenham, already providing two assists in just three Premier League appearances.

His ability to create opportunities and influence the game has been evident, making him a key figure in Spurs’ midfield.

While Sutton’s comments highlight an area for improvement in his game, Maddison’s overall performances continue to demonstrate his value to Tottenham.
