‘Statement signing’: Journalist reacts to Tottenham’s links with Bundesliga ace

By Saikat -

Tottenham have been linked with a number of defenders in recent months, and the latest name linked with a move to the Premier League club is that of the RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Tottenham are interested in signing the 20-year-old Croatian international and journalist Dean Jones has now revealed that it would be a massive statement of intent from the London club if they managed to pull off his signature.

He said: “If Paratici could convince Gvardiol to join Spurs ahead of Chelsea, then he deserves, at the very least, a pat on the back.

“It would be a serious statement signing from Tottenham if they could get that one over the line.”

Gvardiol has been linked with other Premier League clubs in recent months as well and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can fend off the competition and secure his services.

It is no surprise that Antonio Conte is looking to bring in a quality centre-back, especially after the inconsistent performances from the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet this season.

Spurs need to bring in a reliable defensive partner for Cristian Romero and the Croatian international would be a solid long-term signing.

The 20-year-old is an exceptional passer from the back and he is impressive in the air as well. He has all the tools to succeed at the highest level and Gvardiol could develop into a key player for Tottenham in the near future.

A move to the Premier League would be the ideal next step in the player’s career and Spurs could provide him with a platform to improve further and fulfil his world-class potential.
