Spurs willing to throw an unbelievable amount of money on their managerial target

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has refused to give up on making Brendan Rodgers their latest manager even though the former Liverpool boss says he is happy at Leicester City.

After sacking Jose Mourinho, Daniel Levy is determined to make Rodgers his team’s next boss after watching him become arguably the best British born manager in the last decade.

Rodgers has a fine record in the Premier League where he has managed Swansea, Liverpool and Leicester.

Spurs went all out to make Jose Mourinho their manager because they wanted to start winning trophies.

However, the Special One failed to achieve that and they have sacked him and named Ryan Mason as their interim boss until the end of the season.

They wanted to make Julian Nagelsmann their next boss, but he is joining Bayern Munich.

They can hire the experienced likes of Rafa Benitez and Max Allegri as their next manager, but Football Insider says they remain keen on Rodgers.

The report says they are so keen to sign him that they are willing to triple his current salary.

Spurs will offer him £15m per year to make the switch and it is an offer they hope would tempt the northern Irish man.

But they will have to pay a significant fee in compensation because Rodgers is tied to Leicester until 2025.

McGinn’s grandfather was a former chairman of Celtic, too, so Lawwell really blew it regarding this particular player. While he was at Hibs, a programme supplier for me, Brian Johnson, told me what a fine prospect he was.

Incidentally, for anyone who might be interested, there’s a short piece about Brian (circa 7 minutes) on You Tube “A View from The Terrace: The Programme Collector”

That’s exactly right Jose on 15m a year was cheaper than squad reinvestment. In exactly the same way borrowing Bale for 10m was cheaper than buying a world class player, both didn’t quite work out like how he’d envisaged, his words
Funny when it comes to the most important things for a football club ,player recruitment, he penny pinches and buys the cheaper option but when it comes to infrastructure there’s no expense spared. What an absolute w.nker

If Spurs can make Top 4 (A BIG IF) and displace Leicester (Finish 5th) then he might decide to come just because of champions league football. He would also need to have Levy’s backing when it come to players to get rid of and new players purchased (BIG DOUBT). Miracles can happen. 🙂

This whole scenario smacks of desperation on Levy’s part. The last two weeks have shone a spotlight on our beleaguered CEO and it doesn’t reflect favourably.I wonder who could be responsible for that?

It’s Levy’s mantra,15M/yr.is much cheaper in the long run than forever refreshing the team.It happens every time.

Rodgers would be daft to leave Leicester for us at the moment. A couple of years ago I could have understood it but now, you’ve got to be kidding. Unless he can get Levy to commit in writing (preferably in blood) to stay completely out of player selections and transfers and also to agree to give him £200m plus any money generated by player sales for this summer transfer window (there is more chance of Levy becoming the next 3 popes in a row than that happening), he should tell Levy to leave him alone. Don’t do it Brendan!

Kane might stay then….he’s always fancied being a kicker in the NFL.

As so many of the other so called potential managers seem to be otherwise engaged this is beginning to sound quite desperate now-if true. Not sure I believe the story given the amount of compensation that will need to go to Leicester. Levy truly in a bit of a pickle here ?

Money talks, maybe a good ploy to drive up Rodgers Leicester salary.

Rodgers demands almost total control of football matters, he left Celtic because the Chief executive Peter Lawell interfered in transfer matters.

Rodgers wanted John Maginn from Hibernian but Lawell refused to pay £3 million, he wanted to pay £500,000 less. Sound familiar?

So Celtic lost Maginn to Aston Villa, and he’s probably worth £30 million now. Sound familiar?

Rodgers also asked for Castagne and Justin but got two cheaper options from Lawell. Sound familiar?

When Rodgers went to Leicester they got him Justin and Castagne.

I hope we don’t get him for his own sake, he’s part of a decent set up at Leicester and will be making plenty of money already. Don’t do it to yourself Brendan (although there isn’t much I wouldn’t do for 15m a year)

From a club with a robust scouting network that gets him the players he wants and allows him to challenge the top 6 clubs to a club where he will probably have to play Dele, Sanchez, Dier and Winks instead of getting actual players who will improve the team. My only question is why? And if the answer is just “15 mil per year”, I’m not sure I would want him here.

Also, why do we bother with 15M/year managers if we’re not going to back them over a longer period of time? Is the plan to buy three players of Jose’s choosing, four of Brendan’s and then four of whoever comes next, and for that mish-mash to then become a cohesive squad?

Anyway, at least we might “show great character” in competing with Southampton and Burnley in lower mid-table.
